One Pass Productivity with Double-Sided Inline Dispersion
Coating
In Hall 2 at the drupa exhibition, Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be showcasing a particular
highlight for perfecting printing, demonstrating its new Perfecting
Coating Solution on a Speedmaster SM 102-10P. This solution allows
the fifth and tenth printing units to be flexibly used for either
printing or dispersion coating. It enables commercial printers
using a ten-color press to print either 5/5 color or 4/4 color with
double-sided dispersion coating in a single pass. This promises a
noticeable productivity boost in inline production for commercial
printers who need to meet tight deadlines and make themselves stand
out from the competition. The solution is not just for ten-color
presses, but also for the twelve-color presses which are becoming
increasingly common.
This new and versatile coating technology for perfecting
printing opens up new market opportunities for users of long
perfecting presses. The technology can be used to produce printed
materials like automotive brochures, annual reports, brochures,
magazines and CD booklets on matt and glossy paper.
The modular technology allows the offset units to be
converted to coating units in a minimum of time. This ensures that
optimum use is made of the chosen press configuration either for
straight printing with subsequent dispersion coating or for
perfecting printing with or without dispersion coating.
Double-sided dispersion coating gives printed products a
higher-quality appearance. Reduced powder application also improves
the feel of the product. Dispersion coating means that the product
dries faster, which is of particular benefit with matt papers, and
allows finishing to commence rapidly so that job processing times
can be reduced to improve customer service. Moreover, the yellowing
which often occurs with varnishes is eliminated, and the scratch
and scuff resistance of the product is enhanced.
The Perfecting Coating Solution is a chambered doctor blade
system with screen roller. This ensures very even, high-quality
application of the coating. The system is also equipped with
CAN-BUS technology, so it meets even the highest standards for
control systems. The DryStar Perfecting dryer system has been
developed from scratch, and employs a combination of IR and hot air
between the printing units to ensure optimum drying in a minimum of
time.
