Long Perfecting Presses for One-Pass Productivity - CutStar
Sheeter Makes Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 102 Even More
Cost-Effective
At Ipex 2002 in Birmingham, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG
(Heidelberg) will be presenting two press configurations that will
enable print shops to produce flexibly, cost-effectively and in top
quality. These are the Speedmaster SM 74-10-P long perfecting press
and the Speedmaster SM 102-12-P7-S with CutStar sheeter.
CutStar sheeter - the perfect addition
The newly developed CutStar from Heidelberg is ideal for
the Speedmaster SM/CD 102 series. Conceived specifically for
commercial printers with perfecting presses, the CutStar is an
excellent investment, since the sheeter can be utilized to the full
and can really show off its breathtaking economic benefits. The low
price of the web material compared to sheeted goods offers users
significant potential savings. Other cost-effective benefits of the
CutStar include its ability to infinitely adjust to the minimum
length of cut actually required and the increased net productivity
made possible by the highly reliable sheet feed.
Long perfectors take hold
The long perfectors from Heidelberg are becoming increasingly
popular in general commercial print shops that focus on industrial
customers. The presses are integrated into the multi-stage
production process via the CP2000 Center press control system and
are operated centrally on the system's touchscreen. The high level
of automation and the associated short setup times ensure maximum
user friendliness and maximum productivity. The tried-and-tested
Heidelberg perfecting technology, together with numerous
innovations, forms the backbone of the long perfecting presses.
Thanks to PerfectJackets from Heidelberg - specially coated,
exchangeable jackets for the impression cylinders - both sides of
the sheet are printed in the same high quality. Another advantage
of PerfectJackets, in addition to their low-wear surface, is a
reduction of long production cycles made possible by fewer washup
operations. On the long perfectors, optimized sheet guide plates
with Venturi nozzles also ensure that the printing stock is moved
along contact-free on a cushion of air towards the delivery pile.
Visitors to Ipex will see the 50x70 centimeter Speedmaster SM
74-10-P, with fully automatic sheet reversing unit, print at a
speed of up to 15,000 sheets per hour. This press is a logical
progression of the One-Pass Productivity concept that started in
1997 with the eight-color Speedmaster SM 74-8-P. Heidelberg
installed the first Speedmaster SM 74-10-P presses after drupa
2000. Since then, more than 110 eight-color and a dozen ten-color
presses have been put into operation. These print shops make
intensive use of the considerable time and cost savings made
possible by producing 4/4 or 5/5 color prints in a single pass. A
considerable number of the Speedmaster 74 eight-color presses also
have a coating system with extended delivery, thus making them
ultra-flexible in use.
The Speedmaster SM 102 is the high-end press for perfecting
in the 70x100 format. Heidelberg offers this press in
configurations with between eight and twelve printing units. This
means that One-Pass Productivity is possible for up to 6/6 colors
or 5/5 colors plus coating. To date, Heidelberg has shipped more
than 660 presses with up to twelve printing units.
