Heidelberg providing equipment for World Skills Competition in
May 2005 in Finland
Instead of "higher, faster and further", the
parameters by which athletes measure success, the key factors here
are "fast inking-up" and producing "as little waste
as possible". Printing then is taking on the guise of a
sporting discipline and is being included for the first time on a
demonstration basis at the 38th World Skills Competition which this
year is being held in May in the Finnish capital Helsinki. Talented
young printers from Belgium, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands,
Norway, Sweden and Switzerland will compete for gold, silver and
bronze and, as one of the sponsors of this event, Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is providing the "competition
equipment". The young printers will be using one of four
Printmaster PM 52-4 presses for their print jobs and there will
also be two Polar cutters available. Details of the print job will
only be released immediately before the event.
The organizers in Finland expect around 800 young people from
a total of 39 countries to put their skills to the test in 45
different professions.
Heidelberg is keen to be part of this demonstration
competition. Dr. Walter Stählin, whose responsibilities at
Heidelberg include European sales, stressed the world market
leader's commitment, stating "We've made training an
important task in all areas of the graphic arts industry, in
particular for the new generation of printers".
