German School Athens and "Der Tagesspiegel" produce six issues
During the Paralympics (September 17-28, 2004), a quite
unique school newspaper will be published in Athens. In
collaboration with the Berlin daily "Der Tagesspiegel", the
Deutsche Schule Athen (German School Athens) will be designing the
"Paralympics Zeitung". The newspaper will be printed in
Greece on a Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) press.
Heidelberg will also be sponsoring the printing. During the Olympic
Games in Athens, Heidelberg had been responsible for printing the
"DailyNews" (HORIZONT) and esPresso (FOCUS) newsletters.
The 25 schoolchildren in the editorial team of the
"ParaIympics Zeitung" have a busy schedule ahead. Over
the period September 16-29, six issues of the newspaper will appear
and will provide up-to-the-minute reporting on the 12th Paralympics
Summer Games in Athens. Reports will focus on the German
Paralympics team and highlights in and around the Games, such as
visits by German President Horst Köhler from September 17-19,
and German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on September 25.
The newspaper will have a circulation of 5,000 and will be
made available at various outlets, including the German Paralympic
Club / German School Athens and the German Embassy in Athens. 1,000
copies of the issue will be transported by Lufthansa to Berlin
where they will be distributed to members of the Bundestag (German
parliament) and the Berlin Senate.
