The cowardly terrorist attacks that took place yesterday in New
York, Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh in which many people lost
their lives, have also left their mark on Heidelberger
Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). Today work at all European
Heidelberg sites will cease for 5 minutes at 10 a.m., with the time
being spent in quiet contemplation of the victims and their
families.
By carrying out this mark of respect, Heidelberg is
taking up the initiative of the German Federal Government, the
National Federation of German Employer Associations and the
Federation of German Trade Union.
PRINT 01 in Chicago, USA, is continuing under very difficult
circumstances. Heidelberg had hoped that PRINT 01, the most
important international fair of the graphic arts industry this
year, would provide a clearer insight into the anticipated progress
made during the fiscal year as whole.
Following the terrible attacks, PRINT 01 can no longer be
regarded as an indicator of this progress, since the events of the
last few days at the fair have made it impossible to maintain the
normal running of the exhibition. Order levels before the attack
had been in line with expectations. The launch of the new NexPress
2100 digital color press had met with a very positive response from
many visitors to the fair.
PRINT 01 and the anticipated development of the North
American economy are currently being analyzed by the company's
Management Board. "We are presently analyzing the possible
consequences of the current situation in the USA and will make a
statement about this shortly," announced Berhard Schreier,
Chairman of the Management Board of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
