Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is unveiling the new
Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster SM 74 series at drupa 2008. These
new models combine the previous Printmaster PM 52/Speedmaster SM 52
and Printmaster PM 74/Speedmaster SM 74 series and offer
outstanding flexibility with a wide array of customizable
configurations.
The new presses will replace the Printmaster PM and
Speedmaster SM presses in 35 x 50 centimeter (13.78 x 19.69 inch)
and 50 x 70 centimeter (19.69 x 27.56 inch) formats. The successful
Printmaster GTO 52 and Printmaster QM 46 series will be offered
unchanged.
The Peak Performance class with the Speedmaster XL 75, XL
105, and XL 145/162 has been developed for industrial operations
working multiple shifts.
The new drupa 2008 versions of the established Speedmaster SM
52, SM 74, and SM/CD 102 series in the Professional class provide a
cost-effective alternative and come complete with new performance
features.
Customers can configure their own press
The new Speedmaster SM 52 and Speedmaster SM 74 are
available in different configurations, ranging from a
low-automation press with standard-pile delivery to a fully
automated press with high-pile delivery. The wide range of
configurations available across the entire range of models means
that each press can be tailored to the customer's requirements.
This boosts the customer's flexibility and productivity.
The standard models of the new Speedmaster series are
equipped with program-controlled washup devices and come with the
new Prinect Press Center, featuring Intellistart, the
process-oriented operator guidance system. This makes job changes
quick and easy, cuts the number of operating steps users need to
perform by up to 70 percent, and provides a sustained boost to
productivity. The innovative touchscreen operation makes
controlling key processes easy and intuitive, while the
height-adjustable compact console ensures maximum ease of use. The
new standard daylight lamp, which is shielded against extraneous
light, provides the user with the ideal conditions for evaluating
the print sheet. The Prinect Press Center enables the integration
of the Prinect Axis Control and Prinect Image Control color
measuring systems.
The new Speedmaster SM 74 can also be equipped with the wallscreen,
which provides an overview of the complete process and integrates
all additional applications on one large screen.
Heidelberg has set a benchmark in the 35 x 50 centimeter and
50 x 70 centimeter formats with a pioneering new press design that
ensures ergonomic operation. In particular, the user-friendly
footstep on the drive side and operator's side of the new
Speedmaster SM 74 provides easy access to the printing units.
The new Speedmaster SM 52 - the performance leader in the small
format sector
The new Speedmaster SM 52 is available in many different
configurations, covering everything from one- to five-color presses
with standard-pile deliveries, to four- to ten-color presses with
high-pile deliveries. The press produces the ultimate in print
quality in both straight and perfecting printing and supports
substrates ranging from 0.03 millimeter (0.0012 inch) to 0.4
millimeter (0.016 inch) (0.6 millimeter (0.024 inch) as an option),
a sheet format of 360 x 520 millimeters (14.17 x 20.47 inches), and
a maximum print speed of up to 15,000 sheets an hour. The flexible
suction tape feeder can be converted to single-sheet mode in one
easy step and is therefore ideal for printing normal and padded
envelopes at high speed. The fully automatic perfecting device with
jacket technology ensures consistent and identical print quality on
both sides of the sheet.
The new Speedmaster SM 52 is also available with innovative
Anicolor short-inking unit technology which offers impressive
advantages above all in short print runs in offset printing by
minimizing makeready times and reducing waste considerably. The
press will also continue to be available with coating systems,
inline die cutting, and UV preparation.
The new Speedmaster SM 74 - the benchmark in half-format
commercial printing
In addition to two- to ten-color models with high-pile
deliveries, the new Speedmaster SM 74 series has now been augmented
with two- to five-color models with standard-pile deliveries. The
presses with high-pile deliveries can be equipped with different
coating systems with dryers and an extended delivery. The
state-of-the-art suction tape feeder with central suction tape
processes a spectrum of substrates ranging from 0.03 mm to 0.6 mm
and a sheet format of 530 x 740 mm (20.87 x 29.13 in). The press
has a maximum print speed of up to 15,000 sheets per hour in both
straight and perfecting printing. The fully automatic perfecting
device increases the press's flexibility and uses jacket technology
to ensure the ultimate print quality.
The standard-pile delivery models have an impressively compact
design and are intended above all for print shops that deal with
short and medium runs. The new five-color press in particular is
ideal for printshops that want to use spot colors and printing
varnish in a single pass.
Both delivery configurations feature ingenious new sheet
delivery air systems that can be individually adapted to the
relevant substrates and speeds and are perfect for forming delivery
piles with neatly aligned edges. The high-pile delivery models
comes with a new delivery control panel featuring a touchscreen and
jog wheel, ensuring the operator has a clear overview of the
current press status, can operate the press easily, and has fast
access to the most important functions.
